Today, I will discuss about Equipotential boding for equipment’s. we have misconception about grounding and bonding like every grounding need to be Separate. First of all, I am telling you a story or general phenomena. We usually see lots of bird setting on electric wire but they don’t get electric shock or they don’t die but why??
Simple answer they don’t have potential difference between their leg. If they have potential difference in their leg definitely, they will die. The same principle for equipment also. If your grounding layout have potential different then your equipment will get damage when transient conditions.
As per IEEE-80 or ITU K27, single point entry is very important for equipment, Sarver room or sensitive equipment. Need to install one main earth bar or equalizer bar and all earthing will be connected from main earth bar. Separate grounds need to be bonded together, especially under transient conditions to limit earth loops and excessive voltage build up that can damage equipment and present a safety risk to personnel.
